About Underwater Oven

Marine Biologist by day. Baker by night.

Underwater Oven is the brainchild of Sam Peterson, who married her passion for creatures of the sea with her desire to share her creative baking obsession. While offshore, Sam ensures the safety of protected species. But when back in Texas City, she spends her time creating beautiful and delicious treats to brighten up your day or a special occasion.

When did you first get started?

I've always enjoyed baking but the business really developed when I took a random cookie decorating class with a coworker. It came naturally and I became fast friend with the teacher who helped guide me through out the journey. Before I new it, a hobby snowballed into a business and now we're ~8 years into it.

What inspired you to start your business?

I was looking for a creative outlet and always loved baking. And I found a love for decorative cookies and a passion for making something delicious and beautiful for other people to enjoy.

What is your favorite thing to make/produce?

I absolutely love the creative freedom that comes with custom orders. But as for flavors, my recent favorite is the Ginger Espresso cookie.

Where are you from/where did you grow up?

I'm originally from New Jersey and moved down to the Houston area when I was 10. Been in the area most of my life since.
