Galveston’s Own Farmers Market is offering a paid internship for high school students ages 16 and up! This is a great chance to learn about sustainable food systems, community activism, and urban gardening.

SCOPE OF WORK:
Galveston’s Own Farmers Market (GOFM) is seeking innovative high school students to join our Spring 2025 SEED Internship program.
This six-week, paid internship will empower you to tackle food access challenges, promote environmental stewardship, explore food justice, cultural heritage, and ecological resilience, and develop skills to advocate for equitable and healthy communities.
Through hands-on experiences in urban gardening, sustainability, and community activism, you'll gain valuable skills and knowledge to make a positive impact on Galveston.
Program Overview:
Participants will engage in professional development and guest speaker sessions on food justice and urban gardening. They will also gain hands-on experience through the Young Gardener’s Program and GOFM Projects. The program culminates in a showcase presentation of individual and team projects for the community and national supporters.
Goals:
Learn about community organizing
Participate in urban gardening
Explore food justice and advocacy
Understand sustainability and environmental resilience
Develop professional workplace skills
Compensation & Expectations:
$1,000 stipend, paid biweekly during the 6-week program.
Monday to Thursday - ~3:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Sunday Morning - Time Frame TBD
Successful completion of activities, workshops, check-ins, and the SEED showcase presentation.
Eligibility Requirements:
Galveston High School Students (either at GISD, homeschool, etc.)
Minimum age of 16 with parental/guardian approval.
Demonstrated interest in sustainability-related careers.
Able to commit to 15 hours a week, including Sunday mornings and workshops.
SEED’s Mission:
Galveston’s Own Farmers Market (GOFM)’s SEED Internship empowers high school students to become agents of change in their community. Through an immersive program, interns will gain hands-on experience in urban gardening, sustainability, and community activism. By exploring food justice, cultural heritage, and ecological resilience, interns will develop the skills and knowledge needed to advocate for equitable and healthy communities in Galveston, TX.
