About Chef Mary Bass
Chef Mary Bass is a culinary force in historic Galveston, TX. An award-winning caterer, private chef, and savvy business owner, Mary's story is one of passion and community.
What began as a humble venture, baking and selling cake balls from her home kitchen to support her family, has blossomed into a thriving culinary enterprise.
Her mission, deeply rooted in the heart of Galveston, is simple: 'Feeding Generations.' For Chef Mary, food is more than sustenance; it's a demonstration of love. From baby showers to weddings, business openings to graduations, she's honored to be a part of Galveston's most cherished moments, crafting menus that celebrate life's milestones.
As she often says, inspired by her Grandma Mary, 'Love must be shown, love must be demonstrated, the way our family does that is through food.'

About the Galveston County Food Bank
Founded in 2003 by Mark Davis and Bill Ritter, the Galveston County Food Bank began as a small food distribution effort from a church back office on Galveston Island. As community need quickly grew, the organization moved to a larger island facility in 2004. In the aftermath of Hurricane Ike, federal recovery support enabled a major relocation in 2010 to a centralized warehouse in Texas City—laying the groundwork for broader service throughout Galveston County and the adoption of their current name.
Today, the Galveston County Food Bank provides easy access to nutritious food for economically disadvantaged and underserved populations through a network of charitable organizations, schools, and food bank-managed programs focused on reaching vulnerable residents. Beyond food assistance, they connect individuals and families to vital resources such as child care, job placement, family therapy, and healthcare—helping people get back on their feet and move toward recovery and self-sufficiency.
