Bonnie Martin is the Program Lead for SproUTing Teachers, a program in the Eden Lab at the University of Texas at Austin providing coaching to teachers and garden teams to help them create effective outdoor learning opportunities that enhance their school curriculum and physical spaces that are inspiring and sustainable. Bonnie previously worked on the TX Sprouts program, researching the effects that school gardens have on elementary age students and families. Bonnie is the owner of Smart Sprout, working for over 15 years with schools to design gardens and outdoor curriculum programs that enhance classroom learning. She is a Master Gardener in Travis County. She loves teaching about native plants and insects and is unable to grow spinach despite giving it all the love and care she can muster.
Casey McAuliffe is the Executive Director of Galveston's Own Farmers Market. She is mother to Hazel and husband to Alex, with whom she ran a Certified Naturally Grown vegetable & flower farm for 10 years. Under her stewardship, GOFM has increased food-access and established a rooted community + food hub on Galveston Island through implementation of SNAP, specialty WIC programming, free cooking classes + meals, free food-delivery programs, community gardens & a school gardens program established at 9 schools in Galveston ISD. Since 2017, Casey has also served as a City Councilwoman in the City of La Marque. Her work revolves around the value of the natural environment on community well-being and empowering citizens to take control of their own health and claim their role within their own community.
